The Bonk is a broad-based musical project headed by Waterford songwriter and improviser Phil Christie (O Emperor). Gathering influences from 60’s garage, jazz and experimental pop, the band's arrangements bring recursive rhythms and improvised melodies together in loose minimalist song forms.

Their first record, The Bonk Seems To Be A Verb, released through Drogheda-based tape label thirtythree-45, is a collection of one-off live studio recordings patched together from various sessions over an 18 month period.

Since its release, recordings have been continuing apace with the bands live appearances with another collection of tracks planned for release later in 2018.

Incorporating textures as diverse as indecipherable growling vocals, washboards, shimmering synths and improvised melodies, TBSTBAV is dynamic, addictive and exceptional. (Totally Dublin)

The Bonk use slinking and jagged rhythms, as well as a complex, melodically dynamic push & pull to create one of the most singular Irish records we’re likely to hear this year – and they’re equally captivating live. (The Thin Air)
